Carmen Kosachenco

I am a legal and compliance professional with over twenty years of experience, applying my extensive legal knowledge and skills to ensure that companies and institutions comply with regulations. Compliance with laws and regulations has always been a guiding principle in my life and played a special role in my choice of profession.

For over 15 years, I served as a Public Prosecutor in Brazil, passionately believing that upholding laws and regulations would pave the way for a better society. Remembering that, in Brazil, the role of a public prosecutor goes beyond criminal cases, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, I have always acted as a kind of public Compliance Officer.

My journey in the public sector had its challenges, in addition to the Prosecution role itself (criminals, broken families, and corrupt public administrators, for instance). My experience as a prosecutor has equipped me with the ability to thrive under pressure, effectively communicate with all levels of staff, manage risks, and solve complex problems. As Director of the Porto Alegre Family Prosecutor's Office, I led the transition from a physical system to a fully digitalised management system, exercising my leadership, administration and people management skills. This initiative faced resistance to change from senior professionals, but strategies overcame these obstacles, and we were finally recognised with the PRAPAD Award for Excellence in the Public Prosecutor's Office.

To acquire a business-focused mindset, I pursued an LLM in Corporate Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance, focusing on Financial and Banking Law, at the University of Hertfordshire, UK. Additionally, I have an LLM in Data Protection, focusing on GDPR and LGPD.
